On those dates the ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS will celebrate its 19th Annual Theatre Performance with an original production of ROXELLA: A Modern-Day Cinderella Story written, directed, and produced by Luanna Luxton Armstrong.

On those dates the ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS will celebrate its 18th Annual Theatre Performance with an original production of “A TALE BY THE ANCIENT ONE” written, directed and produced by Luanna Luxton Armstrong.

We invite you to travel with us on a magical journey through time and space, with a young man named Kuderix who had to learn life’s lessons the hard way. It wasn’t until all hope had gone that he experienced the transformative powers of love, compassion, forgiveness, and facing one’s fears.

The dancers, actors, dazzling costumes and props, along with classical and top-of-the-charts contemporary music and dance styles, create a unique one-of-a-kind theatre experience for young and old alike. The talented dancers of all ages performing ballet, pointe, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip hop, acrobatics and cabaret are woven into the fabric of the show and enrich the story.

Tom Ewing is the voice of the “THE ANCIENT ONE”, a spirit tree who narrates the tale.

Rowan Mauldin brings charm and tension to the role of the innocent, coming-of-age KUDERIX, who falls under the spell of a SINISTER MAN, chillingly portrayed by Sean Riley.

Our two heroines MEGHAN (Kiryanna Steudle) and CARLY (Mikayla Steudle) save the SCOURGE (Will Odbert) through the power of love and compassion. VIRIK, the GUARDIAN OF THE CRYSTAL CAVE (Duncan Lavey) and KIRA, a NATURE SPIRIT (Lindsay Ellis) offer words of wisdom to Meghan and Carly in their fearful task.

Ella McKerchie is the RING MASTER introducing the delights of the circus while Donna Paquette as FLOSSY entertains us with her singing and humor at Flossy’s Cabaret. Lisa Chambers is the long-suffering MOTHER of Kuderix.

Kuderix came to understand that thought, both negative and positive, create. As you change your thoughts, life and circumstances change around you. The world is then transformed for all of humankind.

Once again, the Academy is proud to acknowledge the enthusiasm and support of the whole community, and the many contributors not only to this presentation but to all of our past productions.

On those dates the Academy of Performing Arts will celebrate its 17th Annual Children’s Theatre Performance with the production of Peter Pan, directed and produced by Luanna Luxton Armstrong.  Our original adaptation of the classic tale brings the story to life.

The audience will be transported to Neverland, a place where dreams are born and things are never planned.  Come to Neverland, the Island of the lost boys led by Peter Pan and opposed by the wicked Captain Hook and his band of scurvy pirates.

The dancers, actors, dazzling costumes, and props along with classical and top-of-the-charts contemporary music and dance styles create a unique, one-of-a-kind theatre experience. The talented dancers of all ages performing ballet, pointe, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip hop, acrobatics, and cabaret are woven into the fabric of the show and enrich the story.

Daniel Jenkins brings charm and tension to the role of PETER PAN, the eternal boy.  CAPTAIN HOOK, Peter’s nemesis, is portrayed by seasoned actor Aaron Jenkins. The three Darling children, WENDY, JOHN, and MICHAEL - played by Sophie Swedene, Tristan Walcher, and Joshua Jenkins bring reality to the magical Island.  Rowan Maulden shares with the audience the events of that fateful London night as NURSE NANA.  Mikayla Steudle is a delight as the mischievous pixie TINKERBELL.

The issues raised in Peter Pan are more complicated and difficult than those of most traditional fairy tales. There is, of course, the battle between good and evil. But there is more.  The question of what it means to grow up and the pain that accompanies the process is central to this story and sets it apart from others of the genre.

Once again, the Academy is proud to acknowledge the enthusiasm and support of the whole community, and the many contributors not only to this presentation but to all of our past productions.

Dates: Saturday, May 5th at 6 p.m.
          Sunday, May 6th at 2 p.m.

Place: DreamMakers Theater, Kewadin Casino
         Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

Tickets: Adults $15, Children (12 & Under) $10

On those dates the Academy of Performing Arts will celebrate its 16th Annual Children’s Theatre Performance with the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, directed and produced by Luanna Luxton Armstrong.  Our original adaptation of the classic tale brings the story to life.

The Magic Mirror, will transport the audience to a time long ago when a Princess named Snow White was forced to flee into the forest to escape the wrath and jealousy of an Evil Queen.

It was there, in the forest, that she found love and protection in the home of the Seven Dwarfs. And it was there that she was saved from the sleeping death by love’s first kiss.

The dancers, actors, dazzling costumes and props along with classical and top of the charts contemporary music and dance styles create a unique one of a kind theatre experience.  The talented dancers ranging from age three to adult performing ballet, pointe, lyrical, jazz, tap, hip hop, acrobatics and cabaret are woven into the fabric of the show and enrich the story.

Taylor Masters brings charm and sweetness to the role of SNOW WHITE.  PRINCE CHARMING is portrayed by a seasoned dancer and actor Harry Worden. Both Taylor and Harry have appeared in all the Academy’s productions over the past 16 years and have brought joy to audiences every time. The voice of the MAGIC MIRROR is brought to life by Tim Ellis of Eagle Radio as he narrates parts of the story.  Lisa Chambers as the OLD CRONE will captivate you.  Luanna Luxton Armstrong reigns as the EVIL QUEEN. The HUNTSMAN and the PEASANT WOMAN with the poisoned combs are played by Will Odbert and Christal Matchinski. THE SEVEN DWARFS are: Michael Bontrager, Brooklyn Parish, Kaylie Crimin, Kiahna Sanderson, Audrey Jacobs, Ava Jacobs and Madison Wilton.

The lessons of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remind us of the truth that marks all beloved fairy tales. True beauty resides in a pure and loving heart.  Such beauty cannot be destroyed - it is eternal, unlike the fleeting, superficial beauty of the Evil Queen that fades with the passage of time. Unselfishness, friendship, loyalty and commitment in the service of good will always win out in the end.

Once again, the Academy is proud to acknowledge the enthusiasm and support of the whole community, and the many contributors not only to this presentation but to all of our past productions.

Dates: Saturday, May 6th at 6 p.m.
